Mersey Gateway
The new Mersey Gateway bridge opened to traffic on 14 October 2017. A free-flow road user charging system is now operating on this 2.3 km bridge which connects Runcorn and Widnes. Merseyflow is the name given to the charging scheme and Halton Borough Council is the charging authority. For more information on registration and charges please visit www.merseyflow.co.uk.
Crossing charges must be paid by midnight of the day following crossing the bridge. If you don’t pay Merseyflow will issue a penalty by midnight the following day, you will be sent a £40 Penalty Charge Notice (PCN), reduced to £20 if paid within 14 days.
There is an appeal process if you don’t think you are liable to pay the penalty, or the road user charge, first to Merseyflow, and if not successful to the independent adjudicator at the Traffic Penalty Tribunal (TPT).
