If you get a PCN, you must pay it or challenge it quickly. You should not ignore it.
You should always quote the PCN number in any letters or phone calls regarding it.
For PCNs attached to the vehicle or handed to the driver - you should follow the instructions on the PCN that explain how to pay it. A PCN must be paid before the end of the period of 28 days beginning with the date of its service. Date of service is when it was attached to a vehicle or handed to the driver.
Date of service for a PCN sent by post is two working days after it was posted to the vehicle owner's address. Drivers only have to pay half the full amount if they pay before the end of the period of 14 days of the PCN being served (parking and buslane PCNs). This discount is available for 21 days for drivers sent a PCN in the post because the parking incident was captured on camera (parking PCNs only).
Once a PCN has been paid it cannot be challenged.
